1998 marked the inauguration of the Oasis Casino, located inside the luxurious Intercontinental resort in Jericho. It aimed to host many visitors from abroad and from Israel, where the law forbids opening casinos. In 2000 when the Second Intifada started, the Oasis Casino became the target of air and ground attacks and had to close its doors after only two years.

The mosaic imitates the style of antique mosaics that can be found in various places of Jericho, and the depiction of Jericho in the Madaba map, using its symbols as the moon and the palm trees. The Mosaic was made by the artist under the teacher of Mohamad Khashroom at the Mosaic Center of Jericho.
