Jericho, called the City of the Moon, said the most ancient city in the world, shows many historical layers, from mesolithic sites to modern ruins. Jericho takes its name from the Arabic word «Ariha», fragrance, or the canaanite god «Yareakh» - god of cyclic rebirth, who allows the morning dew to deliver the perfume of the trees.

Continously destroyed and rebuilt from biblical times to the nowadays occupation, Jericho bears some post-apocalyptic looks with its ruins of each time - making us feel like we were archaeologists from the future. At the same time, the city’s luxurious nature seems to always rebirth from its ashes, under a magical golden light.

L’attente l’oubli: Supermoon∞

2016
Photosensitive emulsion on rocks fromNabi Musa, pieces of antic mosaics and roman amphora handle. Around 35cm.

Three negatives in 33x95cm frame. Photographs of the supermoon rising from Nabi Musa, near Jericho.

On Monday, 14 November 2016, appeared in the sky a supermoon - the biggest supermoon since 1948. Jericho is known as the city of the moon. Its arabic name, Ariha, could have its origin in the name of the Canaanite moon god Yarikh, which is the provider of the dew, enabling the orchards to bloom in the desert - the moon operates as a symbol of life and renewal. Ariha refers both to the flagrance and to the moon god.
A picture of the supermoon, photographed from the Nabi Musa site near Jericho, is printed on the stones.

L’attente l’oubli: Oasis 2000

2016
Mosaic, 35cm
Made with stones from Jericho, Birzeit, Nablus, Bethlehem, Jenin.

Oasis Jericho casino chip cup from 2000.

In 1998, the Oasis Casino opened within the luxurious Intercontinental resort in Jericho, aiming to attract visitors from abroad and Israel, where casinos are prohibited. However, the casino's operation was cut short in 2000 when the Second Intifada began, leading to air and ground attacks that forced its closure after only two years.
The mosaic, created under the guidance of Mohamad Khashroom at the Mosaic Center of Jericho, emulates the style of antique mosaics found throughout Jericho. It draws inspiration from the symbols depicted in the Madaba Map, incorporating elements such as the moon and palm trees to represent Jericho's rich heritage.
